The top Sci-Fi Television Series of all time

  • Farscape — Despite being robbed of its final season this series still stands as the best overall sci-fi series, though I will admit that it is a close call among the top three.
  • Babylon 5 — A depth of story that was exceeded only by Farscape.
  • Blake’s 7 — OK, so Blake wasn’t in most of the episodes and there were seven of the hardly at all, but this sort of anti-Star Trek series was a must see, even with the crappy BBC special effects.
  • Doctor Who — For a large portion of the English speaking world, The Doctor was Sci-Fi.
  • Star Trek: The Original Series — OK, it’s dated.  OK, it’s a little cheesy, but the importance of Star Trek can’t be overlooked.  Sure, TNG was a better series, but points to the original for being, well, original.
  • Stargate SG1-/Atlantis — This had a little bit of everything in it and held up quite well over the years despite numerous cast changes.
  • Twilight Zone — Say enough?
  • Star Trek: The Next Generation — A worthy continuation of the Star Trek franchise.
  • Quantum Leap — Much overlooked, but certainly worth seeing even though for the most part it is not really a Sci-Fi series but rather a period piece with a Sci-Fi wrapper.
  • Roswell — for most of its run Roswell was brilliant and honest and just about the best thing on at the time.

Honorable mentions to Firefly, which but for its far too short run would almost certainly be at the top of this list, and to Max Headroom which also wasn’t around nearly long enough.

Oh, and before you start, Buffy, Xena, and Lost are not Sci-Fi series.
