Headline Liars

by Kreme on Jun.29, 2008, under Computer

Don’t you love it when you read a story based on the headline and realize that the headline was a complete fabrication, often in complete opposition to the story it is headlining?

Here’s an example: Jury convicts Web site operator in P2P case

Now, I’m thinking to myself, “If that’s true, there’s been some mighty creative bending of our legal system.  I need to read more.”  Here’s what I read:

A jury in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia was presented with evidence that Dove was an administrator of a small group of EliteTorrents members known as “Uploaders,” who were responsible for supplying pirated content to the group.

This guy wasn’t a web site operator, he was someone who was actaully supplying copyrighted materials for other to download.  The headline is a lie.
