Brain Drippings

Last year I talked about the possibility of the US dropping the 1$ bill. Now the US is minting new dollar coins featuring the US Presidents, in order (Wonder if Cleveland gets two coins? :). They are the same size and weight as the Susan B Anthony and the Sacagawea coins, and the same color as the latter coins. We are promised 4 coins a year until, presumably, we run out of dead Presidents. The next President will be #44, so we will be done in 11 years for sure, and possibly 10 depending on how long Bush Sr and Clinton and ButtHead survive (You have to have been dead 2 years to be featured on a coin or stamp in the US).

The trouble is, until the supply of 1$ bills is curtailed, the coins will always be also-rans. I still stand by my idea of simply stopping production of the bills and to also mint a new 2$ coin. After all, a dollar now is worth about what a dime was when my father was a kid, so it seems silly to have that be a bill.
