Mexico counts it up again
Mexico is conducting a partial recount in their 2 July Presidential election between former Mexico City Mayor Lopez Obrador (PDR) and former Fox cabinet member (and, for now, winner) Felipe Calderon (PAN). The election is important to Americans because Calderon is a pro-business, pro-investment, and for the most part, pro-American politician and Obrador is, well, not. That said, no foreign politician can really be said to be pro-American while chimpboy squats on Pennsylvania Avenue, but Calderon is more pro-American than Obrador. The protest over the election results has shutdown portions of Mexico City and led to numerous incidents across the country. So far, there’s been no violence. Now, whether Calderon is better for Mexico than Obrador is a question for Mexico to answer. Personally, I think having a change in parties holding the President’s office can’t be a bad thing. No one wants the PAN thinking it is the new PRI, after all. Both candidates support immigration agreements with the US and both are understandably pissed-off about the moronic and xenophobic idea some Americans have had of building a big wall along the border. But I’m just another gringo.
